Common Questions About What It’s Like to Work with Me
-
A lot of people who work with me say the biggest shift isn't a strategy or a technique. It's finally feeling like they make sense to themselves, maybe for the first time. Like they can exhale. Like they're allowed to take up space.
Sessions are collaborative, low-pressure, and built around how your brain actually works, not someone else's. You'll never be handed a generic list and told to try harder. You'll never have to explain yourself from scratch or leave parts of who you are at the door.
And somewhere along the way, a lot of clients stop seeing themselves as the problem and start feeling genuinely curious about who they are and what they're capable of.
-
Really fair question, and a common experience. A lot of people have had therapy that was genuinely supportive without being specifically informed about what works best for neurodivergent people. Generic strategies can help without going far enough, and when they don't stick, it's easy to blame yourself for the gap.
One way to think about it: neurotypical and neurodivergent brains are like different operating systems. Not better or worse, just different. A lot of traditional therapy strategies were built for one system and don't fully translate for neurodivergent folks. That's not a you-problem. That's a fit problem.
I specialize in working with neurodivergent folks and stay current with the research so I understand what's most helpful for my clients. I'll always want to know what has and hasn't worked for you before, because that history is useful data, not a reason to feel discouraged. That history helps us figure out what will actually work for you this time.

That can happen, and it's worth knowing going in. Sometimes when you start paying real attention to patterns you've been managing around for years, or making room for feelings you've been keeping at arm's length, things can feel more present and uncomfortable before they feel lighter. That's not a sign something's wrong. It's often a sign the work is reaching something real.
I'll check in with you about how things are feeling as we go. If something feels like too much or like we've moved too fast, we'll slow down and you'll always be the one to set the pace.
-
Sometimes it's obvious. Something that used to take enormous effort starts feeling easier. A pattern you've been stuck in for years finally makes sense. You react differently to something that would have completely derailed you before.
Sometimes it's subtler than that. You start noticing things you never noticed before. You catch yourself mid-pattern instead of three days later. You feel slightly less like you're white-knuckling everything and slightly more like you have some actual ground under you.
Progress in this work rarely looks like a straight line and it doesn't always feel like forward motion in the moment.
I check in regularly about how things are feeling and whether sessions are feeling useful to you, because how you're experiencing the work is what matters most. If something isn't working or progress feels stuck, I want to know. That's not a problem, it's useful information and we'll figure out together what needs to shift so you're getting the most out of our work together.

It truly depends on what you're bringing in that week. Some weeks we might explore and untangle a feeling or pattern that's been quietly running in the background for years. Some weeks we might work through something immediate and concrete that happened recently. Some weeks we're just making room for all of it.
What stays consistent is that our work together is collaborative and always moving toward your goals.
-
Weekly, especially at the start. In my experience, weekly sessions create the most momentum and the most lasting change. Most clients start to notice real shifts within the first few sessions, and by the three-month mark we usually have solid footing and things are genuinely moving.
How long we work together really depends on you and what brings you in. Some people come in with a specific goal, we work toward it, and when it's met we wrap up. Others find that having a consistent space to keep growing becomes a meaningful part of how they take care of themselves, not because something is wrong, just because the work keeps opening new doors. There's no single right answer and we'll figure out what makes sense for you as we go.
